Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
When do I need to get a lawyer?
In real estate, timing is everything so, we like to say the sooner the better.
If you are buying or selling a property, typically we recommend getting in touch once you are ready to sign or have already signed an offer to purchase. If you are refinancing, feel free to get in touch once you have found a mortgage broker or a lender that you will be working with. This allows us to review the documents and any contract requirements, flag/address any potential issues early on, and help you stay on top of your transaction.
How does your legal fee pricing work?
For all Real Estate transactions, we charge a flat legal fee + disbursements. Disbursements are additional costs that are incurred on a transaction such as land titles registration fees, document searches, estoppels, etc. Because no two real estate transactions are identical, we prefer to provide individualized quotes that include a detailed breakdown of the expected fees and disbursements specifically tailored to your transaction.
Wills and Estates matters are charged at a flat-rate. We offer a variety of packages that can include a will, enduring power of attorney, and/or a personal directive.
Notary and Mediation services are charged at an hourly rate, depending on document requirements or the length of the mediation session.
How do I get a legal fee estimate or book a consultation?
Please visit our Inquiries page and fill out a quick form, or give us a call at (403)-365-4397.
If you are uncertain about whether we can help, please reach out anyways; our team is happy to address all inquiries and will do their best to assist you.
What is the difference between a “Mobile Signing” and a “Remote Signing” Appointment?
For a Mobile Signing Appointment, the lawyer will meet with you anywhere within the city of Calgary that works best for you. This includes coffee shops, libraries, your workplace, or even within the comfort of your own home. This service is complimentary for all real estate transactions.
A Remote Signing Appointment is done over video using zoom or google meet and requires you to courier the originally signed documents back to us. We only recommend this option for out of town clients or those who are unable to meet with us in person.
